Self-proclaimed EDL leader Tommy Robinson is really Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, from Bedford.
In 2004 he joined the BNP with a family membership. In the same year he assaulted an off-duty police officer who intervened to stop a domestic incident between Yaxley-Lennon and his partner Jenna Vowles. During the scuffle Yaxley-Lennon kicked the officer in the head.
He was convicted on 18 April 2005 for assault occasioning actual bodily harm, for which he was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, and assault with intent to resist arrest, for which he received a concurrent term of three months.
Vowles, also a BNP member, was cautioned for possession of cocaine. She told the court that the she found two empty bags in her house and was taking them out so that her parents did not find them.’

Where I live the main concerns are the bosses and politicians cutting pay and conditions, throwing people out of work, taxing the poor more and more, and taking more resources for themselves . It is not some insignificant number of Muslim extremists (some of whom were trained by the British army in the past). I’m surprised the same isn’t true in Luton.

EDL is against extremism of ANY kind, whether it is Islamists or whether it is racists who try to align themselves to the EDL for their own insidious reasons.
EDL does NOT combine ALL Muslims within the category of “Extremist”!
I have Muslim friends (Asian AND white!), if I thought for any second that my support for the EDL would cause them harm in any way, I would not go within 100 miles of it.

Do any of you know the exact circumstances that occured during the incident? Were you an eye witness?
Secondly, Tommy Robinson is not a current BNP member. If, as you say, he had a family membership in the past, then he is an EX BNP member.
The EDL has only been in existance since 2009. All the average person had before then that even remotely came close to anyone talking on their side was the BNP. We had to swallow the bitterness of their racism because they did at least appear to be the only people to be on our side.
So, if people were members of the BNP and then left, this is NOT a bad thing!
Whatever Tommy Robinson did or didn’t do in his past is not relevant.
What is relevant is what the EDL stands for TODAY – 7th February 2011 – and the EDL does not tolerate racism and thuggish behaviour at demos.
